How we check our listings

Most of our listings start from public records, mainly the USDA Local Food Portal and state agriculture directories. Many of those records are years old. Rather than hide that, every listing page on Harvestly Markets shows a status near the top saying how current we think it is and why.

What each status means

StatusWhat it meansMarketsFarm standsCSAs
Confirmed by the operator The market, farm or CSA claimed its listing and confirmed the details with us. 7 0 0
Verified active We found evidence it is still running: its own website shows no closure notice, or it matches an active OpenStreetMap listing. The badge says which check we ran and when. 1,850 744 0
Listed Its source record was updated in the last 5 years, but we haven't independently checked it. The badge shows the month the record was last updated. 4,284 328 1,107
Update date unknown The source we listed it from (usually a state directory) doesn't record when the entry was last updated. Call ahead. 1,345 5,658 0
Check before you go Its source record hasn't been updated in more than 5 years and nothing newer vouches for it. It may still be running, but confirm before you make the trip. 401 1,058 878
Reported closed or moved Its own website or its operator told us it closed or moved. We keep the page so the old address doesn't send you on a wasted trip. 60 21 0

Counts are of every listing in the directory, recomputed each time the site is built.

Where the dates come from

The "last updated" date is the date on the source record, usually when the market or farm last edited its USDA entry. It is not the date we rebuilt our site. When we check a listing ourselves, the badge says what we checked and on what day.

Help us fix a listing

Every listing has two buttons under its status. "Yes, still accurate" records a quick confirmation. "Something's changed" opens a short form where you can correct hours, an address or a website, or tell us it closed. We review every submission before it goes live. Running a market, farm or CSA? Claim your listing and we'll mark it as confirmed by the operator.

You can also add or correct a listing directly, or read more about our data sources.
